Botox is widely used in facial aesthetics to improve symmetry and correct wrinkles and fine lines. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for causing these wrinkles, giving your face a more youthful appearance. Injections are minimally invasive and offer noticeable results with a short recovery time.

What is Botox?

We at The Oxley understand the variations in anatomy we all have, to give you the best results and a soft, natural look. Botox can be used in conjunction with other non-surgical and skincare treatments.

We commonly use Botox to improve frown lines, wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet). We can also use Botox to treat other areas such as the corner of the mouth, smokers’ lines, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), teeth grinding, ‘gummy smiles’, and chin dimpling, as well as many other areas.

What can you treat with Botox?

  • The Oxley will work with you to maximise the effects of any treatment. The following considerations should be made:

    • Consultation: We will ensure a detailed consultation with our surgeons. We will explore what treatments are best tailored to your personal goals. Please share any relevant medical history, including allergies, medications, and any previous cosmetic treatments.

    • Plan ahead: Schedule your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks before any special event to allow full results to develop.

    • Avoid Certain Medications: Unless prescribed, avoid taking blood thinners (like aspirin or ibuprofen) to reduce the risk of bruising. Your clinician may also advise stopping certain supplements, such as Vitamin E or fish oil.

    • No Facial Treatments: Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion 1-2 weeks before your Botox treatment to ensure your skin is in the best condition.

    • Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising.

    • Arrive with Clean Skin: Make sure your face is clean and free of makeup or other products when you arrive for your Botox appointment.

  • Although the downtime of injections is minimal, we recommend the following advice:

    • Stay Upright: For at least 4 hours after the procedure, avoid lying down to help the Botox properly settle into the muscles.

    • Avoid Touching or Massaging the Treated Areas: Don’t rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours to prevent spreading

    • Avoid additional make-up for 24h.

    • Exercise: Wait 24 hours before engaging in strenuous exercise or activities that might cause excessive sweating.

    • Avoid Heat: Avoid hot tubs, saunas, or direct sun exposure for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of irritation or increased swelling.

    • Bruising and Swelling: Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is common and typically resolves in a few days.

Results: It may take between 3 to 14 days for the full effects to appear.

  • The injections are quick and cause minimal discomfort. Some patients feel a slight pinch or pressure, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated.

  • Botox treatments typically have little to no downtime. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure, although it's recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and heat (e.g., saunas, hot tubs) for 24 hours.

  • This can very person to person but Botox typically last between 3 to 6 months.  Over time, the treated muscles gradually regain their ability to move, and the wrinkles or excessive sweating may start to return. Further treatments can then be performed.

  • Yes. It is not uncommon for our experienced clinicians to recommend a comprehensive multi-treatment approach. The consultation will create a bespoke plan tailored to your needs.
